A Complete Transformation for Babcock International
Junair Spraybooths have just completed the installation of a state-of-the-art Bodyshop training facility for arguably one of the largest providers within the training industry. Babcock International deliver advanced automotive training on behalf of Volkswagen Group, Bentley, BMW, Rolls Royce, Hyundai, Mazda, Fiat Group Automobiles (FGA) and Subaru.
Junair Spraybooths Transform an Automotive Paint and Bodyshop Training Facility
Kieron Bramall, Head of Automotive Training, Babcock International commented “When we decided to invest nearly £1m in our 30,000 sq/ft facility in Milton Keynes, our vision was to create the most advanced paint and Bodyshop training facility to undertake our automotive training within the UK. Our client base includes some of the leading automotive manufactures who use the latest equipment and repair techniques, with this in mind our facility and equipment needed to reflect this. Junair Spraybooths worked with us on a consultative basis; they started by understanding what we wanted to achieve. From there they were able draw up a list of equipment which met ours and more importantly the motor manufactures requirements. Working with Junair Spraybooths allowed us to lean on their wealth of experience and expertise to design the layout of the facility, which maximised our available space and ensured the facility would run efficiently. We have also taken advantage of Junair’s patented energy saving technology to reduce our operating costs.”
The equipment installed in the new facility included:
A steel repair bay with a centralised dust extracted system, two post lift, spot welding equipment, jig system and paintless dent removal equipment. A mechanical electrical and trim (MET) bay which houses all the vehicle diagnostic testing equipment, a four wheel alignment lift and a range of durable work benches.
As more and more manufactures use aluminium and carbon composite materials an aluminium repair bay complete with heating and extraction systems was installed. This bay can accommodate the needs of large vehicles and features lockable and secure tool storage areas, centralised dust extraction, welding equipment and bespoke work benches.
A large spraybooth measuring 8m x 4m again to accommodate large vehicles was also installed. This spraybooth features a fully gridded LEVAC low profile floor which is surface mounted and only measures 140mm in height, this also avoided the need for any building excavation and utilises Junair’s latest environmentally friendly paint curing technology. Lastly a fully ventilated paint mixing and gun cleaning room was installed. This room has the capability to accommodate four paint mixing schemes housed discreetly behind lockable roller shutter doors. The area also contains a gun wash facility for both water and solvent based paint usage.
A key requirement for this facility was all areas had to be sound proofed, this ensures that noisy activities associated with vehicle structural repairs can be undertaken without affecting other training in the surrounding areas. Lighting within a Bodyshop is also an important consideration to ensure a high quality repair and paint finish. The lighting Lux levels within the facility at Babcock meets those required by manufacturer standards for their approved repairers.
The transformation
Grahame Kitchin, Sales Director, Junair Spraybooths “We have completely transformed an empty building into a market leading Bodyshop training facility in just four weeks. Babcock International have fully researched the market and gone to great expense to purchase high quality equipment to undertake any type of vehicle repair using the latest technology approved by many motor manufactures. Due to our in-house design capabilities we were able to advise Babcock International throughout the project to make certain the facility was maximising its potential. In addition the technology adopted within the Spraybooth at this facility will future-proof Babcock as new water-based products are introduced.”
Kieron also commented “The whole installation was undertaken and project managed by Junair Spraybooths, we were able to take advantage of their bespoke mechanical and electrical services package which simplified the whole installation. I would have no hesitation is recommending Junair Spraybooths to anyone, their approach was professional which enabled the installation to be completed on time and exceeded our expectations.”
